Marshall鈥檚 JJ Roberts and West Virginia鈥檚 Garrett Greene didn鈥檛 hear their names called in the NFL Draft, but their phones buzzed shortly thereafter.
And both calls likely came from 813 or 656 area codes.
Roberts and Greene both got undrafted free agent deals from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, their respective alma maters posted on social media on Saturday night.
鈥淕onna get everything outta me 鈥︹ Roberts posted on X Saturday night in quoting Marshall鈥檚 post touting his new destination.
鈥淏lessed!鈥 read a similar post from Greene.
They may cross paths early and often in Buccaneers workouts. Roberts is a safety, while Greene, who primarily played quarterback for the Mountaineers, projects as a wide receiver at the NFL level.
Roberts, a Cabell Midland graduate, made 94 tackles, 50 of them solo stops, for the Thundering Herd in 2024. That included five tackles for loss.
Roberts added a sack and 14 pass breakups.
Greene threw for 2,300 yards on 189-of-315 passing in 2024. He threw 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Greene was 性视界传媒鈥檚 second-leading rusher in yardage with 751 yards and third among the Mountaineers with six touchdowns.
Both joined college teammates in the NFL who were drafted a day earlier. Marshall edge rusher Mike Green went to the Ravens in the second round on Friday night, followed by 性视界传媒 offensive lineman Wyatt Milum to the Jaguars in round three.
Other Mountaineers who signed undrafted free agent deals included Fatorma Mulbah (Jets), TJ Jackson (Seahawks), Kole Taylor (Bengals) and Austin Brinkman (Texans), according to 性视界传媒鈥檚 X.
