The six people charged with trespassing during a sit-in protest last month outside the office of Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., have been fined $50 each.

At-Large Charleston Councilmember Joe Solomon
Morgan Fowler retained counsel and pleaded no contest to the charge, meaning she admitted the state likely had enough evidence to prove the charge. She was also fined $50 and ordered to pay $72 in court costs.

Kenny Matthews, who helped with the protest and fundraising, said the money not used to pay fines and court costs would go to the West Virginia Bail Fund and the food bank at Orchard Manor in Charleston.
Prior to the sentencing in Charleston Municipal Court, a few dozen people gathered to continue protesting Capito's votes on legislation that will lead to cuts to Medicaid and food benefits for low-income people.
