HUNTINGTON — Paula Vega Cakes announced on Wednesday that it will “not be reopening the storefront.â€
Owners Zach and Kathy Melba purchased the business from Jess and Derrick Hinkle in January 2024. The bakery first opened in 2011, named for its original owner.
“It has always been my wife’s dream as a home baker to have a storefront bakery. So when the opportunity presented itself to purchase, we jumped on it,†Zach Melba said in an email statement to HD Media. “It’s been a great experience. She got to live her dream. We have worked 80- and 100-hour weeks to make sure that place kept going. But ultimately with my other business and our granddaughter coming back to live with us it was just too much and something had to go.â€
He said the bakery “is for sale once more.â€
According to the Facebook post, Kathy Melba will fill open orders or people may choose to be reimbursed.
